Nashville Fashion season has come and gone, but (although a little delayed) I’m following up with my thoughts on all the events I attended, including the Elegant Ladies Fashion Show. It was the 5th Annual ‘Spring Into Fashion’ Fashion Show for the Elegant Ladies, and it took place on April 1. The show featured ten designers who together showcased looks that ranged across the spectrum from formal to casual. While there were so many amazing looks, I somehow managed to narrow down all the runway looks to my top ten favorite.
We’re rounding out the month of March, but continuing the celebration of Women’s History Month, today’s Feature Friday is Nurse Karin. She’s incredibly knowledgeable in the area of women’s health, and she also happens to be a stylista, mommy, and blogger. I thought a chat with her would be the perfect ending to Women’s History Month, and I hope you think so too.
I did my first snapchat takeover, and it happened to be for Draper James’ Birchbox event! Ummm, yes! If you’re not familiar, Draper is a clothing retailer (owned by Reese Witherspoon), and BB provides a beauty subscription service. The two businesses teamed up to celebrate Women’s History Month, and I was thrilled Draper James asked me to be a part of it. In case you missed it, I’ve recapped the deets.
Celebrating International Women’s Day
Today we celebrate women and all of our social, economic, cultural and political achievements. While we’re busy taking on the world and balancing everything on our plates, one of the first things we nix once our to do list grows too long is time we once dedicated to taking care of ourselves, including our attire. And for that reason, today I’m dishing on how to look the part in a fraction of the time. Continue reading “Looking the Part with Limited Time”
Happy Friday! So… February is coming to an end, but I’m sneaking in one last feature this month. If you’ve been following, you know I’ve been incorporating black history and black history makers into my posts. I’ve loved the way the posts and pics have turned out, and I thought it would be cool to end the month by featuring Brandon Williams, the photographer who has been behind some of my notable pics.
I’m excited to keep the Feature Friday series going, and as mentioned in the last Feature Friday post, this month I’m featuring black history makers. Isaac, today’s feature, definitely fits the bill. He’s a social engineer, business strategist, assistant professor, and entrepreneur. He also happens to be stylish.
So Isaac, for those reading who may not know you, tell us a little about yourself and what you do.
For starters, I’m a first-generation American and the first-born child of immigrant parents. My mother and father left Ghana many years ago to pursue a new world, which resulted in me being a true diasporan. I consider myself to be a pure social engineer, a person focused on solving social problems using an engineering mindset.
“I’ve always loved reading and writing. I was in a short story contest in 3rd grade and I think I got 2nd or 3rd place. Ever since then, I figured I would either read or write for a living.” – Mariah
Feature Fridays are back, and I’m really excited about the features I have lined up this month! In honor of black history month I’m intentionally featuring black history makers in my Feature Friday posts. First up, I have a fellow blogger, lawyer, and advocate. She’s a great writer, and happens to be using her skills to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of black people this month (in this country and abroad) through a collection of poems.
What to Wear When…
Chillin’ Out Maxin’ Relaxin’ All Cool
One of my favorite things about the weekend is kicking back and relaxing, and often times my weekend wear reflects just that. So for this look, as relaxed as my mood was, I reached for my Air Jordan 1 Retro High Tops; sorry still not sorry tee; and distressed black jeans.
